Target Products Limited is a
privately held Canadian company incorporated in 1961. The company employs
over 100 people. The head office is in Burnaby and the state of the art
production facility completed the relocation to their aggregate screening
and drying plant in Abbotsford in 2006.
Target also operates plants in Calgary, Morinville, Saskatoon and
Olympia WA. Other subsidiaries include a synthetic sports field division
Target Technologies Inc., an equipment design and manufacturing division
Forge Industrial Engineering and a materials’ handling division, Team
Mixing Technologies Inc., all located in the Greater Vancouver area.
The company’s original product line was based on the
manufacturing and packaging of cementitious mixes primarily for
lumberyards and do-it-yourself box stores. These products provide
customers with convenient, quality products for small projects. Over time
expansion of their product line included packaged materials that are
tailored to the industrial market. These include grouts and floor
levelers.
The company’s sand division distributes a variety of blasting and
filter sands. Besides supplying the Burnaby plant with dry aggregates, the
Aldergrove plant produces some of the company’s sand products such as
engine sand and forestry grit.
The
golf course and sports field division produces and distributes topdressing
and bunker sands, fairway mixes and greens mixes. Target owns soil
blenders equipped with testing equipment and laboratories for blending
different soils for the golf course industry.
The company has supplied golf courses in Hawaii, Bermuda,
Washington, Alberta and British Columbia.
In the mid 1980’s, Target
expanded into the Alberta market with the acquisition of a plant in
Calgary. This plant manufactures cementitious products for the Alberta
retail market. The plant also produces shotcrete and distributes various
blasting products and concrete additives such as silica fume and silica
flour.
In
1994 Target purchased a sand drying and screening facility located just
outside Edmonton in Morinville, Alberta. Target continues to distribute
different blasting media and now processes its own silica sand. Target’s
sand is used in a variety of industries such as: sandblasting, filtration,
fluid bed power generation, tile grouts, paving joints, and poultry grit.
A successful joint venture was formed in 1996 in Seattle,
Washington. Mutual Target LLC combines Target’s ability to build plants
and design bag mixes with Mutual Material’s ability to sell to
lumberyards and masonry contractors.
Target’s
technical expertise as Western Canada’s leading shotcrete supplier to
the Mining Industry combined with the tradition of Cindercrete Products in
Saskatchewan led (in 1997) to the creation of Cindercrete Mining Supplies,
a company dedicated to supplying the Saskatchewan market with shotcrete,
grouts, shotcrete equipment and sandblasting materials.
With
plants serving Western Canada and the USA Target also has representatives
in South America and the Pacific Rim.
Target
Technologies International Inc (TTII) was incorporated early in 2002 as a
new division of the Target Products Group of Companies. TTII is a virtual
sales and marketing company offering quality products and supply chain
management logistics services. TTII acts as a procurement agent,
representing both vendors and buyers. One of its niche markets is the
running track and artificial sports field industry. Products supplied into
these markets include: Ambient & Cryogenic Crumb Rubber (recycled
car/truck tires refined down into a specified granule size); EPDM Rubber;
TPV Granules; Silica Sand; Gravel; Road Tech 2000 (an environmentally

In
2002, the company created Forge Industrial Engineering., a division with
several engineers and a focus to provide both engineering design support
to the Target Group of Companies and out side firms interested in
equipment and engineering design in the aggregate and bulk powder
discipline.
In
August 2003, the material handling division of Thiessen Team merged with
Target Products Ltd creating a new company Team Mixing Technologies Inc.
The merger allowed for the integration of Thiessen Team’s line of fully
automated material handling systems into Target’s offerings.
The
company has a policy of doing work in house. This policy encompasses
everything from equipment design and fabrication, to mix design and
product development. This experience and knowledge base has provided the
means for the company’s expansion. Although the Calgary and Edmonton
plants were purchased out of receivership, Target’s equipment knowledge,
production know-how, and business base has turned both Alberta operations
into profitable ventures. Joint venture partners are attracted to Target
for the same reason.
Target employees understand the long-term strategy of the company.
This long-term strategy builds quality into all aspects of the
organization. When designing, building, or purchasing equipment, the
company looks at a long-term picture. This means quality equipment that
serves the needs of the company into the future. The company also tries to
build long-term relationships with customers. This means quality products
at competitive prices. Finally, Target strives to build long-term
relationships with suppliers by seeking quality products and excellent
service at competitive prices.
