Walnut Shell Grit (99932811-99932812) is a blast cleaning media for removal of paint, flash, burrs and other flaws in plastic and rubber molding, aluminum and zinc die casting and the electronics industry. It is used as a sand replacement for paint removal, graffiti removal and general cleaning in restoration of buildings, bridges and outdoor statuary. Walnut Shell Grit is used for aircraft engine clean out and for cleaning steam turbines.

Used For:

Walnut Shell Grit prevents lost circulation on oil well drilling. Provides a non-skid enhancer in abrasive paints around swimming pools, walkways, dock boards and other areas where a rough surface is required. Serves as a filler prior to burnout – a porosity enhancer for grinding wheels and ceramics. Preserves gel-coat when removing paint from fibreglass boats. Serves as a filtration media in petroleum industry applications. Wide range of surface patterns can be achieved with 7 grades of Walnut Shell Grit (6/12 to 60/100) available.

Soda Blast uses small sharp crystals of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) that are propelled, by pressurized air or water, at a surface to remove coatings. Sodium bicarbonate is a food grade material that is non-hazardous, water soluble, and won’t damage most surfaces. Available in: Industrial Formula (grade 5), Commercial Formula (grade 5L) Packaging.

Used For:

Soda blasting is an environmentally friendlier way of removing paint, dirt, coatings, and other surface contaminants that do not cause damage to the surfaces being cleaned.

Features:

The action of the sodium bicarbonate used does not cause heat buildup, sparks, or abrasion to the substrate.

K2-Strip

K2-Strip (9992302) specially produced and sized potassium sulphate crystal. K2-Strip is an odourless, non-volatile, non-flammable and non-controlled substance. No special disposal considerations are required.

Used For:

Removing coating/stripping paint off metals.

Features:

Environmentally friendly.
Worker friendly.
Water soluble.
Neutral pH level.
Non-sparking.

Testing:

Recent tests have shown, when stripping paint off of metal using the same equipment, “K2-STRIP” is between two and three times faster than sodium bicarbonate.
These tests were conducted side by side using a SB 400 soda blasting machine with a number 7 nozzle and a 285 compressor. These same tests also conclude that “K2-STRIP” will leave a slightly increased profile without pitting the metal. Although not recommended for use on fibreglass, plastic, aluminum or other soft substrates, this media will allow for a significant reduction in the time required to remove coating off metals.

Green Diamonds (9992219) are high-efficiency blasting grits prepared by selective screening of nickel slag. Three gradations are available to provide materials suitable for most blast cleaning operations. All three grades have a Moh’s hardness of 6.5 to 7, giving improved cutting relative to conventional industrial and silica sands. Green Diamond is manufactured by Cominco American for Target Products Ltd.

Used For:

Green Diamond is suitable for most grit blasting operations on metal surfaces. The shapes of the individual particles make this product ideal for the efficient removal of mill scale, rust or existing coatings from steel and other metals in preparation for fabrication or painting.
The high fracture resistance of Green Diamond, plus the available dust reduction treatment, reduce dust formation and give increased recoverability, improved safety factors and reduced equipment maintenance costs while continuing to provide the required degree of etch.
The low free silica content (less than 1%) of Green Diamond is a significant factor in situations where the use of silica sand blasting abrasives is not acceptable for environmental or safety reasons.
Green Diamond is classified in Fisheries and Oceans Canada Report No. 1692 of January 1991 as: having moderate to low toxicity to fish, i.e. 96-h LC50 > 100 mg/L (Test value was > 66000 mg/L) not known to be persistent and not likely to accumulate in animal tissues.

Garnet – SSPC/AMPP AB1 Certified (9992792) is a naturally occurring almandite garnet, the hardest of all known garnet types. All grades have a Moh’s hardness of 7-8, with a specific gravity of 3.75-4.3 g/cm³.

Used For:

Garnet is suitable for sandblasting, textile blasting (jeans), water filtration, glass and tube blasting, anti-slip coating, water jet cutting, abrasive applications, tumbling media, and non-skid surfaces.

Advantages

The angular to sub-angular particle size is proven to be very fast cutting and provides a super clean surface for protective coating applications.
Garnet is chemically inert, with less than 1% free silica and not heavy metals.
Garnet is recoverable and reusable.

Classified by Fisheries and Oceans as:

Having moderate to low toxicity to fish, i.e. 96-h LC50 > 100 mg/L (Test value was >70,000 mg/L).
Not known to be persistent and not likely to accumulate in animal tissues.

Recycled Glass is a clean, high quality, close graded, processed, crushed, recycled glass abrasive.

Used For:

Suitable for a wide range of uses requiring quality, close graded abrasives.
Exceptional for sandblasting, aluminum, steel, concrete and wood.
Less than 1% free silica which is a significant factor in situations where the use of silica sandblasting abrasives is not acceptable for environmental or safety reasons.

Features:

Less embedments than slag and leaves a brighter surface after cleaning.
Excellent cutting power on most coatings and rusted surfaces.
Bulk density is considerably lighter than slags and silica sands, therefore with Enviro-Grit, there is more volume per kilo.
Delays rustback because of the alkalinity of crushed glass.

Used For:

A soft grit abrasive that blast-cleans metal, wood, fiberglass, plastic, masonry, electrical insulators and other materials.

Features:

Corn cob is cleaner and less dusty than many other abrasives, is non-sparking.
Will not damage the gears of operating equipment.
Can be used with standard sandblasting equipment.
No masking is required.
The natural structure of Corn Cob allows the granules to absorb the substance to be removed and help speed up and intensify the cleaning process.
